What's all this about?
Peugeot is claiming a world first for the new 208, which will be available with textured paint for a unique finish that's slightly granular to the touch. Available in Ice Grey or Ice Silver the textured finish costs £645, the same as pearlescent paint.
Are there any advantages?
According to Peugeot the textured paint reinforces the dynamism and elegant design of the 208. On a more practical note the finish is harder wearing and easier to care for than the matt finishes seen on other cars. It is said to resist micro-scratching and won't suffer through frequent car washing; it's backed up by a lifetime guarantee.
It has taken nearly four years to develop textured paint and the process has been patented. The primer and base colour are applied in the same way as conventional metallic paint. What is different is the lacquer; it contains fine particles of silica for the matt finish, toughness and granular properties while micro-balloons of polyamide create the special texture.
Any other personalisation options?
On Peugeot 208 Allure and higher-specification models customers can choose the Menthol White or Lime Yellow exterior appearance packages. Interior packages are also available and can be specified independently of the exterior packs.
