What's this all about?
Mercedes-AMG will reveal the next stage in the evolution of its GT with the race-prepared GT3 at the Geneva Motor Show. The successor to the SLS AMG GT3 complies with FIA regulations. We will have to wait until 3rd March to see the real car, as so far there are just a couple design sketches to tease our appetites. It is possible that the GT3 racer will inspire a higher-performance version of the GT too.
What do we know?
Official details of the GT3 are sparse, as the full story will be revealed in Geneva. From the sketches it is clear the car will feature some serious aerodynamic body modifications to provide downforce at racing speeds.
Other than that, Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers told Autocar magazine that a street-legal version of the GT3 is on the way. Expectations are that this will be lighter than the Mercedes-AMG GT by somewhere between 80- and 100kg and produce about 550hp under the bonnet. Moers was keen to stress that the new model would be a complete package with the focus on driveability, lap time and feel as much as straight-line performance.
We don't know what name will be used for the road car but, to avoid confusion with the Porsche range, it will not be called 'GT3'.
