Hang on; haven't we seen this one before?
Yup, Infiniti did indeed release a photo and a few sparse details of its Q60 Concept, but now we have a few more bits and pieces of info.
Infiniti is rather, ahem, keen on its concept cars, isn't it?
Indeed. More than a few people have suggested that Infiniti makes more concept cars than it actually sells production models in Europe. Ahem and indeed ahem. Still, it's a big brand in the US and has big (eventually, honest) plans for Europe and the Q60 is a big pointer towards what we can expect.
So, it's tautly designed and dimensioned: 4.6 metres long, with bodywork draped over the chassis in a series of tightly-pulled, razor-sharp panels. Rather nice actually.
And what lies beneath?
Ah, Infiniti is still being a bit tight lipped on the mechanical side of things but it has said that the Q60 draws inspiration from the Eau Rouge concept, which packed a massive petrol-fuelled V8 engine. Maybe it has one of those? Certainly on the basis of looks (and badge) this makes a natural coupé addendum to the Q50 saloon and a rival to the BMW 4 Series.
There are lots of concept-y touches; from massive 21-inch alloy wheels that are sculpted to look like the turbine blades of a jet engine to LED headlights that are designed to mimic the shape of the human eye, right down to the tiny filaments that flow into the iris.
Inside, Infiniti is going for a seriously high-quality feel with lots of hand-stitched leather, individual bucket seats even for those in the rear and a whole bunch of carbon fibre to remind everyone that Infiniti is a major sponsor of the Red Bull F1 team.
The instrument panel is done in two-tone black and white and the whole cabin is supposed to reflect a feeling of "artistry and tailoring."
The entire exterior has been finished in a metallic silver colour called Arctic Aluminium, which hopefully can be made affordable enough for production as it's rather lovely.
When can I buy one?
Not yet, but given that Infiniti really, really wants to take on the Germans on their home turf, soon enough. It looks more or less production ready and expect it to come to the market late in 2015 armed with engines including Mercedes-Benz-sourced 2.1-litre diesels.
