What's the news?

Peugeot is marking the 30th anniversary of the iconic 205 GTi with a world preview of a special edition of the 208 GTi at the Goodwood Festival of Speed later this month.

The 208 GTi 30th Anniversary Limited Edition will take part in dynamic demonstrations on the Goodwood Hill, while it will also be on static display in the Moving Motor Show showroom. Little details as yet on the car are available, but expect it to be a 'bells, whistles and decals' version of the excellent standard 208 GTi.

The Peugeot stand at Goodwood is worth checking out for a number of other reasons too, such as the 2008 DKR Dakar challenger, the Exalt concept car's European debut (that's the one with 'shark skin' on the back of it), the RCZ R coupé and a couple more 208s, one being the HYbrid FE demonstrator capable of 0-62mph in 8.0 seconds while emitting just 46g/km of CO₂, the other a 208 GTi Prestige loaded with equipment.

However, the most exciting prospect there is the 308 R concept, which features a 270hp 1.6-litre THP engine (the one from the RCZ R). Given how good the current European Car of the Year is in standard format, we'd love to see a 308 R enter production and give its similarly-monogrammed Volkswagen Golf rival a bloody nose.

Oh, and finally, if all of the above isn't enough temptation - Peugeot Sport will be running the 2013 Pikes Peak-winning 208 T16 and a glorious 405 T16 GR, which competed in the same event back in 1988, the former machine in the hands of arguably the most talented driver in the world and the man who won the 2013 Pikes Peak, Sébastien Loeb. The 907 V12 Coupé Concept of 2004 will also be at the Cartier 'Style et Luxe' exhibition, all of the above to mark out Peugeot's 125th year as a car maker.
