What's the news?
Peugeot's new 108 city car will go on sale from July 1 with prices starting from £8,245. That will get you a 1.0-litre three-door hatchback in entry level Access trim, but with four trim levels, personalisation options to beat the band and a cabrio to choose from the sky is the limit.
The cabrio Top! model, with its peel-back fabric roof, is only available in mid-spec Active and Allure specifications, but it is only a £850 price walk from the comparable hatch. Entry-level Access cars are only available as three-doors, but include LED daytime running lights, remote central locking, six airbags and a USB socket as standard.
Active models are available from £9,495 and add body-coloured door mirrors and handles, air conditioning, DAB digital radio, a seven-inch infotainment system with Bluetooth and Mirror Screen (which mirrors the image on your smartphone). A multi-function steering wheel and electric front windows are also included.
Drop £10,995 on an Allure car and it will come with 15-inch alloy wheels, front fog lights, auto headlights, heated door mirrors, a reversing camera, keyless entry, a stop-start engine button and tinted rear windows. The steering wheel and gear knob also receive some leather embellishments.
Range topping Feline trim is available from £11,845 and is said to add a touch of luxury with leather seats, chrome door handles and mirrors, plus dual zone climate control.
In addition to the four basic trim levels there is also a multitude of personalisation options such as a choice of eight body colours and three different roof shades. Optional extras start at £100 for an Aikinite ambience, which consists of a dash insert and gloss black surround on the centre console. Diamond, Kilt, Barcode, Dressy, Tattoo and Sport personalisation themes are available for £350, while Purple Berry / Zircon Grey two-tone paint with Dual personalisation costs £850.
Anything else?
No matter whether you choose the 108 Hatch or Top! you will be offered the choice of two petrol engines: a 69hp 1.0-litre three-cylinder unit or Peugeot's new 83hp 1.2-litre Puretech VTi engine. Each promises CO2 emissions of less than 100g/km and both come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, though the 1.0-litre does come with the option of a semi-automatic transmission.
