What's the news?
General Motors is to drop its Chevrolet brand in Europe by the end of 2015 to allow it to focus on its Opel and Vauxhall brands.
The move will mean the end of cars such as the Aveo, Captiva and Trax, though the Corvette will continue to be offered in limited capacity.
The move is the latest effort by GM to turn around its European operations and allow it to focus its investments where needed.
"Chevrolet will no longer have a mainstream presence in western and eastern Europe due to a challenging business model and the difficult economic situation in Europe." commented a source.
Chevrolet will continue to honour all warranties and provide servicing back-up for all of its vehicles. A spokesman said that the brand will maintain parts levels for the next 10 years and that Opel and Vauxhall dealerships will assume the servicing responsibilities for Chevrolet.
Anything else?
With stock already existing and production orders already in place new Chevrolets will continue to be sold in Europe for the next two years.
