What's the news?
Mazda is launching its new MZD Connect internet connectivity system on the new Mazda3 when the model goes on sale in October. It is said to be one of the first cars in the segment to offer a wide range of online services.
By working with the user's smartphone, MZD Connect can access a range of services from cloud-based infotainment provider Aha. Over 40,000 choices are available including internet radio, news, podcasts, audio books, Facebook and Twitter feeds. There are also location-based services - all accessible once users download the free Aha app and connect their phone via Bluetooth or USB.
Vehicle-related apps are included too; with Eco-display and maintenance reminders. The system is described as flexible and future-proof thanks to modular hardware and updatable software. Playback from other devices is supported and the system works in 25 languages for audio and 38 for text.
Anything else?
Mazda talks about a completely redesigned human-machine interface to interact with the connected services, which makes it sound like some sort of science-fiction telepathic link between driver and car. In practice it means there is a head-up display, called Active Driving Display, to place key information in the driver's normal line of sight. MZD also comes with a seven-inch touch screen display that sits on top of the dashboard.
