What's the news?
BMW has given us a roundup of all its plans for the autumn season. Among these is new engines for its 3 Series, 4 Series and X5 models; and new options packages across the range.
BMW 4 Series
BMW has once again expanded the engine range of its all-new 4 Series, bringing in a new entry-level 184hp, four-cylinder petrol engine in the 420i. This car's engine uses BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, as do the two diesel units now featured in the range. The first is a 258hp engine installed in the 430d, and the other is the flagship 435d - coming with a stonking great 313hp straight-six engine hooked up to BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive system via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. This engine will also be available in the 335d xDrive Touring.
Also for the 4 Series is the introduction of the BMW Modern Line package. Joining the already confirmed Sport Line and Luxury Line packs, Modern Line comprises bespoke alloy wheels, aluminium design features, an 'Oyster' finish in the cabin and ambient lighting.
BMW X5
Like the 4 Series, three new engines are coming to the new BMW X5 range. The entry-level model will be powered by a 218hp four-cylinder diesel unit, sending power to either all four wheels in the xDrive25d, or just the rear ones in the sDrive25d - a first for the X5. Also new is a straight-six petrol unit offering 306hp - plus the same 313hp diesel engine found in the 435d.
For those who want to tailor make their X5 before purchase, BMW has expanded its Individual portfolio. New Merino leather with contrasting piping and stitching can be had for the seats and two new interior trim strips have been introduced. On the outside BMW has launched Ruby Black and Pyrite Brown metallic paint finishes, as well as new 20-inch alloy wheels.
BMW ConnectedDrive
The BMW ConnectedDrive system is also set to receive enhancements before the year is out; with Traffic Jam Assistant finding itself packaged with the optional Driving Assistant Plus system. The new add-on is designed to aid the driver in stop-start traffic by maintaining a set distance from the car in front and bringing the car to a standstill if necessary. It also keeps the car in the correct lane providing the driver has at least one hand on the wheel.
BMW will also be introducing its fully automatic Parking Assistant this autumn. The system will detect suitable parking spaces and autonomously park the car by controlling the steering, accelerator, brakes and gears - all you have to do is press a button.
Anything else?
The BMW M5 and M6 are also set to receive new paint finishes with the BMW Individual Package. Frozen Black, Blue, Red and Brilliant White metallic options are soon to be available on both models. The M6 can also be specified with a Frozen Cashmere Silver finish.
