What's the news?
As if the M5 and M6 weren't fast enough, BMW has introduced a Competition Pack to make them both even quicker. In fact, the new models actually take the crown of being the most powerful production BMWs ever created.
Exterior
As well as more power, BMW has tweaked the looks of both cars. The M5 receives the double-spoke kidney grille from the M6 and both models get Twin Blade technology for the rear lights, 20-inch lightweight alloy wheels finished in black and black chrome exhaust outlets.
Interior
The interior for both is carried forward from the standard cars; however, more options regarding upholstery and trim panels are available for the M5.
Mechanicals
Under the bonnet, the twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 engine has had its power upped to 575hp; bringing 0-62mph times down to 4.1- and 4.2 seconds for the M6 and M5 respectively. In addition, suspension and steering settings have been altered, the Active Differential is said to now provide more responsive handling and the M Dynamic Mode gives drivers more freedom to push their luck before the DSC steps in to save the day.
Anything else?
Prices for the M5 start at £80,205 and at £100,680 for the M6.
For those who are a little more wallet-conscious BMW has expanded the 5 Series range with a new entry-level model. The new 518d features the latest 5 Series styling upgrades; and comes with a 143hp 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine under the bonnet. Economy of 62.8mpg and 119g/km of CO2 should make the car popular with business users, too. The new 518d is priced from £29,830 for the saloon and £32,155 for the Touring.
