Dacia has finalised the prices and specification for the Logan MCV (Maximum Capacity Vehicle - or estate to you and I), described as 'the UK's most affordable estate'. The MCV is available to order now, from £6,995 with cars due to arrive by July.

The key selling point is unrivalled boot space per pound; the Logan MCV boasts a 573-litre boot, similar in size to a Volvo V70's. For comparison the Skoda Fabia Estate costs £11,105 for a 505-litre boot. To match the Logan's ratio of price to carrying capacity of 12.2 pence per litre means buying a used car.

Don't expect too many litres under the bonnet, as the largest engine is a 1.5-litre diesel developing 90hp. Matching the diesel's power output is Renault's new, three-cylinder, 0.9-litre turbocharged petrol motor with a 1.2-litre, 16-valve, 75hp unit as the entry-level choice. Carbon dioxide emissions range from 135g/km for the base engine to 99g/km from the diesel.

A choice of three trim levels are available: Access, Ambiance and Lauréate. Standard equipment on the entry-level Access is limited to the essentials, including 15-inch steel wheels, four airbags and ISOFIX child seat mounting points. The window winders are manual and a radio is a dealer-fit option. A CD and radio is included on the mid-range Ambiance, along with electric front windows, remote central locking and black roof bars all for £600 over the base model. Dacia predicts the Lauréate will be the most popular version offering air conditioning, rear electric windows, a more upmarket interior and chrome front grille.
