Lamborghini's runway publicity stunt
Miami International Airport closed for high-speed stunt to mark the launch of the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Roadster.
Lamborghini kicked off the media launch for the Aventador LP700-4 roadster in Miami with a small publicity stunt - closing an airport for a photo shoot and high-speed run.
To demonstrate the pace of its new car five Aventador Roadsters sped down the runway, hitting 210mph - exceeding the take-off speed of jet aircraft at the airport by at least 30mph. The stunt was carried out with the approval of the Federal Aviation Authority and Miami-Dade County. Careful planning meant that there was no disruption to flight arrivals and departures.
Prior to the demonstration a parade of 50 vehicles ran from the unveiling event at Miami Beach, along Collins Drive in South Beach to the airport. The Aventadors then posed for photographs next to an American Airlines Boeing 777.
"It has been a great pleasure to work with the Miami-Dade Aviation Department and South Beach teams on today's amazing demonstrations. I have never seen something similar at a Lamborghini event," said Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A.
