What's the news?

BMW has given its Z4 roadster model a midlife refresh; consisting of minor changes inside and out, and an expanded version of BMW's ConnectedDrive system.

Exterior

At a glance you'd be hard pushed to spot changes here. The front headlights have a slightly sleeker design and are equipped with Xenon lamps as standard. Four LED rings act as daytime running lights too. The alloy wheel catalogue now features a new 18-inch V-Spoke design as well as the original line-up. The updated Z4 is available in more colours than before, including one named Valencia Orange that can only be had with the Hyper Orange Pack - extending the colour scheme inside. The M-Sport package is also carried over as an option, which features a sportier body kit and M-Sport alloy wheels.

Interior

Very little here has been changed in terms of styling. BMW has added standard-fit high-gloss black surrounds to the centre console, along with Anthracite Wood as a trim-level option. Specifying the Hyper Orange package does add some flair though with orange detailing to the seats, dashboard and the Alcantara door trims. Standard equipment includes automatic climate control, a tyre pressure monitor, and an 11-speaker stereo.

An expanded ConnectedDrive system has also been fitted; which includes the Real Time Traffic Information system if specified with satnav. Apple users can also use BMW apps with the system; and apps such as Facebook can be used as well. BMW Concierge Services and Automatic Collision Detection are two features included in the upgrade.

Mechanicals

The new BMW Z4 will use the existing engine line-up with the Driving Experience Control switch fitted as standard. Comfort, Sport and Sport+ all adjust suspension settings and engine response accordingly.

Anything else?

Order books for the updated model are open now, with first deliveries expected in Spring 2013. Prices are expected to mimic those of the current BMW Z4.
