What's the news?
Mazda has given the MX-5 a facelift, with updated styling and more equipment. There is a new model with on-board satnav and all models benefit from an active bonnet that pops up in the event of an impact to minimise pedestrian injuries.
Exterior
Changes have been made to the MX-5's front end to give it a more aggressive look. The grille and bumper are new with a deeper chin spoiler giving the impression of extra width. Aerodynamics also benefit from the restyle, which reduces drag around the fog lamps and front wheels.
Interior
Mazda has increased the level of standard equipment; every model now comes with climate control and a glossy dark grey dashboard panel. Sport Tech and PowerShift models now get an auto-dimming interior mirror too, while a new version, the MX-5 Sport Tech Nav, is available with built-in, touch-screen satellite navigation.
Mechanicals
Three engine and transmission combinations are available. There is a 1.8-litre engine with 126hp and a five-speed manual gearbox. A 2.0-litre motor is also offered and comes with a choice of six-speed manual or 'PowerShift' six-speed automatic transmission. The six-speed manual version also benefits from revised accelerator and brake behaviour.
Anything else?
The updated Mazda MX-5 goes on sale from 1st December with prices from £18,495 to £23,595.
