Volkswagen is now offering its lowest price yet for its latest Beetle with the addition of two new engine variants to the range. These powerplants complete the range of Beetle models - a car that was introduced to the UK market back in March.
The first new option is the addition of a six-speed manual gearbox to the Beetle's existing 105hp 1.2-litre TSI petrol engine; and the second is the new 1.6-litre TDI diesel powerplant, also developing 105hp - and available with either a five-speed manual or a seven-speed DSG transmission.
Both new powertrains are available on the entry-spec 'Beetle' model and 'Design' trim level; bringing the starting price down to £15,195 for an entry-level Beetle equipped with the 1.2-litre petrol unit and a six-speed gearbox - a saving of over £1,400 compared with the previous starting price.
More savings are to be had with the 1.6-litre TDI unit, as the lowest priced diesel Beetle is now £3,000 less than it used to be at £17,030. With the inclusion of BlueMotion Technology fitted as standard on this engine, running costs are also low as the car can achieve 65.7mpg on the combined cycle, and emits just 113g/km of CO2.
Since the Beetle's launch back in March - when it was available in just one trim level with one engine - the range has rapidly expanded. The model is now on sale in four different trim levels, with two petrol and three diesel engines. The two latest additions are available to order from all Volkswagen dealers now, with first deliveries to take place in January 2013.
