What's the news?
With the release of the 2013 model imminent, Land Rover has announced this week that it is introducing new colour and comfort options to the Defender range.
Exterior
Two new body colours and four contrasting roof finishes have been introduced to the Defender's classic shape. Barolo Black and Havana shades sit underneath a roof that can now be specified in Santorini Black, Indus Silver, Orkney Grey or Firenze Red. The new roof colours can also be applied to the main body of the car, and the Defender's original Fuji White roof is still available.
Interior
To complement the new colours, Land Rover is offering customers a more premium seat design for the model. Contoured part-leather seats with Land Rover's emblem on the backrest are said to offer higher levels of comfort and support. Also new is an upgrade to the Defender's existing sound system featuring an Alpine subwoofer system, with uprated 10cm speakers to replace the standard units. Bluetooth is also available as an optional extra.
Mechanicals
Following the release of the new EU5 2.2-litre diesel engine earlier this year, no mechanical changes were included in the visual refresh. The Defender's 'go anywhere' reputation is aided by the car's standard six-speed gearbox, low range first gear and 360Nm of torque from the new engine.
Anything else?
Along with the new styling and equipment packs, Land Rover is still offering the existing upgrade packages for the Defender, including a Cold Climate Pack offering heated front seats and a heated windscreen; an Exterior Pack featuring mud flaps, roof bars and side steps; and the Off-Road Pack boasting all-terrain ABS and traction control, heavy duty steel wheels and underside protection.
Available in 14 different body styles, the 2013 Land Rover Defender goes on sale this month, with prices starting from £22,350.
