Toyota has announced its plans to campaign a GT86 at this year's Britcar 24-hour endurance race on 22-23 September. Team Toyota GB has been reformed for the event and the cars will be painted in a similar style to the Team Toyota GB Corolla AE86 racing cars from the 1980s.
Preparation work is being undertaken by GBRF, who also developed the BTCC Toyota Avensis. The goal is to produce a competitive racing machine whilst retaining as much of the road car's specification as possible. The car is entered in the Production Class.
Gary Blackham and Roger King of GBRF will oversee the team. Blackham believes the GT86 will put in a strong performance. Development work includes lightening and strengthening the shell as well as fitting safety equipment and quick refuelling apparatus.
The driver line-up will be announced in the next few weeks.
