What's the news?
Volkswagen has introduced a 2.0-litre TDI and a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine to the Beetle's existing line-up; both of which are available with six-speed manual or DSG gearboxes. The German company has also launched exclusive Turbo Black and Turbo Silver trim levels for the 2.0-litre petrol engine.
Exterior
The TDI is available in both mid-level Design and top-spec Sport trim; whereas the TSI petrol engine is available in Sport or Turbo Black/Silver guises. The range topping Sport model includes 18-inch alloy wheels, tinted windows and gloss black door mirrors. The 2.0-litre TSI 200 Sport also gains twin-chromed exhaust pipes, red brake callipers and a rear diffuser to add to the mix. The exclusive Turbo Black/Silver body kit comprises upgraded 19-inch 'Tornado' alloy wheels and side-mounted 'Turbo' decals.
Interior
Bluetooth, a DAB radio with iPod connectivity and a leather-wrapped steering wheel come as standard on the mid-range Design trim; while the range-topping Sport model adds dual-zone climate control, sports seats and cruise control to the interior. The Fender sound pack is available as an optional extra for the Beetle - developing 400W and featuring three-colour illumination for the front speakers. Also available is Keyless Access and satnav.
Mechanicals
The 2.0-litre TDI engine produces 140hp, getting the Beetle from 0-62mph in 9.5 seconds. The diesel engine also manages 57.6mpg on the combined cycle and 129g/km of CO2. The 2.0-litre TSI model manages 0-62mph in 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 139mph thanks to its 200hp output. A four-link rear suspension also features on the TSI model, to further sharpen up its handling.
Anything else?
Both engines are on sale now, prices starting at £20,085 for a Design-spec TDI; and increasing to £24,505 for the 2.0-litre TSI Turbo Black/Silver.
