Volkswagen is to inject some sportiness into the Polo range with the launch of the new Polo R Line. Based on the Polo Match the R Line is available in both three- and five-door body styles and is powered by a 105hp version of the 1.2-litre TSI petrol unit linked to a six-speed manual gearbox.
Externally, deep bumpers front and rear, a black gloss grille complete with R Line badging and 16-inch Mallory alloy wheels separate the R Line Polo from common or garden variants. Inside the R Line is distinguished by brushed aluminium scuff plates, sports seats in 'Kyalami' cloth (and featuring an R Line logo on the headrests), a leather trimmed steering wheel, aluminium pedals and black roof lining.
Standard equipment includes a six-speaker audio system with multi-device interface for plugging in an iPod or any other compatible item, air conditioning and a full complement of electronic bits and pieces. Volkswagen says the 1.2-litre engine is capable of propelling the R Line from 0-62mph in 9.7 seconds, can return fuel economy of 53.3mpg and emit CO
2 emissions of 124g/km.
Prices for the Volkswagen Polo R Line start at £15,195 for the three-door model, rising to £15,815 for the five-door. The Polo R Line is available to order now, with first deliveries expected in July.
