With nothing but lozenge-styled, electrically driven plug-in concepts on Toyota's stand it was down to yoof brand Scion to provide some octane fuelled entertainment at the Cobo Hall, Detroit. And it delivered, big time, with Scion's FR-S - its interpretation of Toyota's GT 86 - being rolled out in drift specification. That means more power, like three times more power, with 600bhp.
This one-off drift machine has been developed as a collaborative project between Scion Racing and GReddy - a performance products company. It's more than a mere show car too, the 600bhp FR-S will take part in the 2012 Formula DRIFT series with Ken Gushi driving.
In addition to the drift car Scion announced the 'First 86' event for FR-S customers. It will give 86 customers the chance have their FR-S delivered before the car goes on general sale. To take part FR-S customers need to log onto
www.scionfirst86.com and submit why they should be among the first owners from January 12, the site remaining open for 8 hours and 6 minutes.
