Chinese car manufacturer Geely is preparing to launch in the UK with the first cars arriving in late 2012.
Geely International Holdings has appointed Manganese Bronze Holdings (MBH) to establish a dealer network and arrange supply of cars, parts and service as Geely Auto UK. MBH is the company behind the London Taxi and has worked with Geely to build the black cab in China.
The UK is the first major Western European market for Geely. Initial imports will be the Emgrand EC7 in saloon and hatchback forms. These come with either 1.5- or 1.8-litre petrol engines. Prices will start at around £10,000 with the aim of attracting both private and business customers.
Over the next four to five years Geely plans to broaden its range with 'at least one new model range every year'. The company promises that its line-up is well suited to the European market with type approval. The cars will come with a five-year, 100,000-mile warranty.
In preparation for the brand's launch the plan is to establish a network of 30 to 40 dealers. The company is looking for small, independent dealers with a reputation for good customer service. Geely's UK web site will also go live soon at
www.geelyauto.co.uk.
