Alfa Romeo's recently released Giulietta range is to benefit from the addition of a third diesel engine to its list of power plants.
This new 2.0-litre JTDM-2 unit pushes out 140bhp and sits nicely between the other two diesel offerings, a 105bhp 1.6-litre and a 170bhp 2.0-litre. With a variable geometry turbocharger, peak torque delivery varies between 258lb.ft at 1,750rpm and 236lb.ft at 1,500rpm, dependant on which setting the D.N.A. selector is positioned at (Dynamic, Normal, All Weather). Alfa claims the highest torque in the Giulietta's class when compared to similarly efficient and powerful engines.
Perhaps of most interest to buyers are the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions figures, which make an appealing case for the Giulietta with this engine option. The combined economy figure is 62.8mpg, while the quoted CO2 output is 119g/km.
Alfa Romeo explains that these figures have been achieved using start-stop technology and built-in exhaust gas recirculation system that improves the control of temperature and gas flow whilst simultaneously lowering emissions and reducing fuel consumption.
Prices for the new Giulietta version start at £20,750 for the 2.0 JTDM-2 140bhp Lusso.
