Porsche is reviving the RS legend to celebrate the 911's 40th anniversary. The new limited edition Porsche 911 GT3 RS is the ultimate version of the current 911.
This new super Porsche is the spiritual successor of the 1972 Carrera RS and it will be launched at the
Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Porsche will only build 200 RS models.
The car is only available in white with classic red or blue RS decals above each sill. It also has a huge fixed rear wing, which helps with high-speed stability.
The RS name refers to Renn Sport, or Race Sport.
It features special lightweight parts and has a real race car look. The door-mounted mirrors, bonnet, engine cover and rear wing are made of carbon fibre. The rear window is also acrylic for further weight saving.
With a full tank of petrol (90 litres), the car weighs only 1,360 kg.
The interior is also stripped out and the RS has no air-conditioning, centre console or glovebox. Instead it has motorsport features such as a competition roll cage, six point safety harnesses and a fire extinguisher.
Although the RS is street legal, it will be produced with international GT rules for motorsport in mind.
It has a 3.6-litre engine with a power output of 381 bhp. The GT3 RS blasts from 0-62 mph in 4.4 seconds and it will reach 125 mph from standstill in only 14 seconds. Top speed is 191 mph.
A close-ratio six-speed gearbox sends power to the rear wheels only.
The Car Enthusiast will be travelling to the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show. We look forward to bringing you back further images as well as first impressions of the car in the metal.
