Volkswagen's sixth generation Jetta has made its European debut. It features some changes in specification compared with the US-market car that was unveiled in New York earlier this year.
European Jettas get a similar, four-link independent rear suspension to the current Golf. The spring and damper rates have also been changed from the American car and the rear track is wider.
Engines include two 1.4-litre TSI petrol units with 120- and 158bhp and 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre turbodiesels with 104- and 138bhp respectively. The smaller diesel comes with fuel-saving technology such as stop-start and battery regeneration.
The new exterior look features a grille that is similar to the new Phaeton's. On the inside VW has brought the styling in line with the latest Golf's with a new centre console, climate control system and steering wheel. There is also an increase in rear legroom thanks to a longer wheelbase and 90mm increase in body length.
Prices and equipment levels will be announced before the Jetta goes on sale early in 2011.
