Chrysler has released details and pictures of the new 200 saloon. It is the replacement for the Sebring and, as the name suggests, sits below the 300 in the range.
As with the Sebring, the engines offered for the American market are a 2.4-litre four-cylinder and a 3.6-litre V6 - both petrol. The former is available with either four- or six-speed automatic transmissions, while the six-speed automatic is standard on the V6.
If the powerplants are familiar, the styling is new, although clearly related to the 200C EV concept of 2009. It shows the new 'face' of the company with a trapezoidal grille and slim chrome bars. There are also new projector headlamps, a restyled Chrysler badge and LED tail lights.
Under the skin there are stiffer mounts for softer suspension with revised geometry for a better ride. There are also measures to reduce noise, vibration and harshness including laminated front door windows.
The interior features 'quality' materials; the armrests and dashboard have a soft finish, the seats are more cushioned and covered in leather and cloth upholstery.
Chrysler 200s will start arriving in American showrooms later this year. Although the Sebring was offered in the UK there are currently no plans to import its successor.
