After a recent demonstration run at Le Mans, Audi's electric supercar prototype, the R8 e-tron, will be put through its paces across 100 miles of Austria, in the Silvretta E-Auto Rally.
Visually, much is shared with its petrol-powered sibling. Built on an aluminium space-frame, power comes from four electric motors - two at the front, two at the rear - with power split 70 percent to the rear, 30 percent to the front. The water-cooled, lithium ion battery pack is mounted behind the driver, giving the car a 42:58 weight distribution ratio.
With 313bhp and a claimed top speed of 124mph, recharging from a standard power point takes between six and eight hours, although some energy is recouped during braking.
The car will be driven by Audi board member Michael Dick and factory driver Lukas Luhr; 'We already received very good feedback on the Audi R8 e-tron in Le Mans. In Montafon, the e-tron will put its potential to the test in ten different mountain, valley and timed special stages. This is a good opportunity to showcase Audi's integrated approach and to experience the fascination of electromobility in a sports car on the road.' Said Mr. Dick.
