Ahead of the launch of an
electric version of the Smart Fortwo in 2012, an updated model boasting revisions inside and out, along with more environmentally friendly petrol and diesel engines will go on sale. It arrives before the end of 2010.
New for the outside of the city car are LED daytime running lights, body-coloured spoiler and side-skirts, fresh colour choices along with new alloy wheel designs. They're complemented on the inside with a revised dashboard, new fabrics and mp3 audio integration options. A leather-trimmed steering wheel and satellite navigation are also available options.
Power comes in the form of 59- and 68bhp petrol engines, both with CO
2 emissions of 97g/km. A turbodiesel offering 52bhp boasts CO
2 of just 86g/km. Even the more powerful 82- and 99bhp Brabus engines emit only 119g/km, keeping tax costs low.
A special-edition 'lightshine' version will be available from launch offering 15-inch alloy wheels, a fabric-covered instrument panel and featured options fitted as standard.
Since its launch in 1998 1.2 million Smart Fortwos have been manufactured.
Prices for the latest model will be announced closer to launch.
