Renault has announced its cleanest ever production car with the unveiling of the Clio dCi 86 eco2 model. It offers 76.3mpg combined economy and emissions of 98g/km, qualifying this turbodiesel-powered supermini for free road tax.
Available in three- and five-door forms, there is no price premium for this Clio compared to its standard sister models. Renault has reduced the emissions for the eco2 model by 17g/km over the standard Clio 1.5 dCi 86 by improving the airflow over and around the car.
A new lip under the front bumper smoothes air flow, while the rear axle is now enclosed by a new under-body section of plastic. Rounding off the aerodynamic improvements are front wheelarch extension flaps to better guide air around the car.
Low friction oil is used in the engine, along with low rolling resistance tyres, a remapped ECU electronic brain and taller gearing for the transmission. Renault says the new gearing doesn't affect performance.
The Renault Clio eco2 dCi 86 costs from £12,690 and is available to buy now.
