Porsche's existing 911 GT2's lap time of 7 minutes and 32 seconds around the Nürburgring is under threat as the company tests the next-generation car pictured here.
The most extreme 911 derivative features rear-wheel drive and the most potent version of Porsche's turbocharged flat-six engine. With the recently announced
Turbo S developing the same 530bhp from its blown 3.8-litre engine as the current GT2 develops from its 3.6-litre version we'd anticipate a respectable hike in output for the next 'widow maker'.
Porsche doesn't typically make huge leaps in power - even on the madcap GT2 - so its likely it will feature an increase of 20-30bhp over the Turbo S rather than boasting a three-figure maximum output number starting with a '6'.
The performance will be extraordinary regardless, the GT2 mixing elements of the user-friendly Turbo with the more track-focused GT3 models to create a lighter, more bombastic flagship for those wanting their turbocharged 911 a little bit unhinged.
It'll feature Porsche's carbon ceramic brakes, revised aerodynamics to increase downforce and lessen drag and a 0-62mph time in the low three-second region. Expect all that to come with no increase in economy or emissions over the 22.6mpg and 298g/km CO
2 output of the
current GT2.
Top speed, pricing and when it's expected? North of 200mph certainly, and we expect around £130,000-£140,000 and sometime in the next 10-12 months. What we know for certain is that Walter Rohrl will be waiting expectantly in the wings to better the old GT2's 7 minute 32 second lap time. Though even he admitted at the last GT2's launch that he was really trying when he achieved that, the GT2 scaring even the mighty Walter a bit. Just a bit mind; for us mere mortals it's a completely different and altogether more terrifying proposition. We can't wait to try it.
