Peugeot has improved the 207 with a more powerful, Euro 5 compliant turbodiesel engine and six-speed gearbox. Known as the HDi 112, it replaces the HDi 110 in the 207 hatchback and SW.
We've seen this engine in other Peugeots already, including the 308 CC. It uses a 1,650-bar common rail fuel system with piezo-electric injectors. Compared to the unit it replaces this engine features a smaller, lower inertia, variable geometry turbocharger and the management software has been revised.
The result is 110bhp from 1.6-litres and peak torque of 199lb.ft, with 210lb.ft available for short periods on overboost. Mated with the new six-speed transmission, the hatchback will do 0-62mph in 11.1 seconds claims Peugeot on the way to a top speed of 120mph; the SW estate is slightly slower, needing an extra 0.7 seconds to get to 62mph and reaching 117mph.
On the combined cycle the hatchback returns 61.4mpg (60.1mpg for the SW) and the CO2 emissions are 119g/km (124g/km SW). Both versions qualify for free first-year Vehicle Excise Duty.
Prices start at £15,645 for the three-door HDi 112 Sport, with the five-door costing an extra £600. The SW HDi 112 is available in either Sport trim for £17,385 or Outdoor for £200 more. All models are available now.
