Renault now allows Mégane punters of all persuasions the chance to add some sporty style to their cars, offering GT spec on all body styles.
That's right, GT trim is available on the three-door Coupé, five-door hatch, Coupé-Cabriolet and Sports Tourer estate versions of the car.
Actually, GT is more than a trim level, as it bridges the gap between 'normal' models and proper Renaultsport versions. Though there are no RS variants of the drop-top, estate or five-door hatch. Hmm. You know what we're getting at.
A choice of two engines power GT cars: a 178bhp turbocharged petrol unit or a 158bhp diesel, both 2.0-litre units. The diesel makes up its power deficit with more torque and a 10mpg efficiency advantage on the combined cycle.
GT versions sit on a modified sport chassis, with stiffer springs and dampers, and get Renaultsport-inspired fixtures and fittings. The body kit is unique, as are the 18-inch alloys and sports steering wheel. The seats are the same as those in the
Mégane Renaultsport 250, but they're re-trimmed. Rear parking sensors are standard.
The cheapest GT available is the five-door hatch in petrol form, at £21,910. Add £1,000 for the two-less doors of the Coupé, a diesel Sport Tourer is £23,975 and prices for the convertible haven't been announced.
And despite what we said earlier about gap bridging, it's actually possible to choose a GT-Line option for any Mégane, of any power, for £1,290. That'll buy the GT styling and sports chassis. All this stuff is available from April, with deliveries starting in June.
