Techart, the Porsche specialist tuning company, has broken the lap record at the Sachsenring circuit in Saxony, Germany. The GT Street RS, based on a
911 GT2, set a lap time of one minute 31 seconds, which improved upon the previous lap record by four seconds.
Not only did the GT Street RS claim the quickest lap, it also showcased a 0-62mph time of 3.5 seconds and a braking distance of just less than 33 metres from the same speed. However, such colossal performance figures are hardly a surprise after a perusal of the horsepower and torque that the car produces: 690bhp at 7,000rpm and 634lb.ft at 4,500rpm.
As well as shattering the standing lap record, the GT Street RS was crowned the winner of the Tuner Grand Prix for a second consecutive year. Whilst not an official recognition, the winner of the Tuner Grand Prix is generally seen as the best performance car tuner in Europe.
However, don't reach for the cheque book just yet; the GT Street RS weighs in at a hefty 340,434 Euro (about £296,000) with all of the various upgrades that allow the car to produce the kind of performance seen at the Sachsenring. Techart's mantra of high performance matched with high quality materials certainly comes at a premium.
