What is it?
The Mountain and Islander are special editions based on Jeep's long-running Wrangler off-roader. The Islander resurrects a cherished name from Jeep's past and uses the Sport version as its starting point. It comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, blue inserts in the grey cloth seats and 'Tiki Bob' decals on the bonnet. The Mountain also uses 17-inch alloys, along with side-steps and unique decals. Both are available in two- and four-door bodies.
Why's it here?
A good question. Other than trying to bolster sales of the Wrangler in the USA, where even the most sunburnt of rednecks has woken up to the attractions of more sophisticated 4x4s, the Wrangler editions offer nothing more than some chintz over the standard models.
Show stopper or floor filler?
Floor filler if ever we saw some. Not even the lure of a 3.7-litre V6 engine and superb off-road ability could part us from our money for one of Jeep's special editions. Thankfully, they are only for US customers.
