A host of changes update Volkswagen's California campervan and Caravelle people carrier. Both share a revised front end with Polo-esque headlights and new bumpers. There's also a new parking assist function with on-screen display in the dash.
Other exterior upgrades include daytime running for the headlights, front foglights, new alloy wheels and brake lights that flash under heavy braking to warn drivers behind.
Both models have an improved dashboard, reshaped front seats for greater comfort and a gearchange indicator to prompt the driver towards greater fuel economy. There's also the option of a DAB digital radio, touchscreen satellite navigation and steering wheel controls for the stereo.
A passenger airbag deactivation switch upgrades the safety features, along with a seatbelt reminder and hill-hold function when the car is stopped on steep ascents. There's also an improved ESP system with Rain Brake Support, while a tyre pressure monitor is an option along with lane change assist to warn the driver of car's in the VW's blind spot.
There is now a pair of 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesels on offer in 138- and 178bhp forms, the latter using twin turbochargers to produce 295lb.ft of torque. A seven-speed, DSG dual-clutch gearbox is an option for both engines, which come as standard with a six-speed manual 'box - and 4Motion four-wheel drive will be an option with the DSG transmission later in 2010.
Prices for the California campervan start at £39,950 while the Caravelle costs from £31,400 and has the option of a sleep pack that turns the rear seats into a bed and includes curtains.
