Volkswagen has delayed production of its new Microbus to 2007. The German car manufacturer is going to redesign the all-new Microbus to ensure it will be a sales success.
According to reports VW is also redesigning the new Microbus to cast a wider net than the targeted American market – the Microbus was first shown as a concept at the
2001 Detroit Auto Show.
"The new approach to the model came about because focusing solely on the US market would have jeopardised the success of the model given the still unfavourable exchange rate and market conditions," VW said.
Insiders say that the revamped Microbus will share more parts with VW's new T5 transporter, which will cut costs.
VW aims to create 1,500 jobs to help assemble the Microbus in the German city of Hanover.
