Volkswagen will have attendees at the Worthersee event giddy when it uses its stage to unveil two pimped out Vee Dubs: the 'Worthersee 09' edition Polo and Golf GTI. They're both concepts, but arguably the former is most interesting because as yet there's no Polo GTI, so this Worthersee version could well prove to be a preview of it.
Volkswagen claims the Polo 'offers an initial impression of how a sport version of the new compact might look,' and although it's powered by a distinctly non-GTI engine - an 85bhp 1.4-litre unit - there are a few details that might make production. The 18-inch 'Budapest' wheels are an obvious show detail, but note the black mirror caps, radiator grille, lower bumper and headlamps, because you might be seeing them again. The only thing missing is red accents for the grille, really.
There's a load of black in the interior too, with high gloss inserts in the steering wheel and around the air vents. The Nappa leather seats are upholstered in black, red and white, and the stitching of the leather wheel, handbrake, gearshift stick and door cards is red. Again, all things that could feature in the cockpit of a Polo GTI.
Then there's the Golf, which looks very tasty indeed thanks to smoked rear taillights, 19-inch black wheels (which we hope to see on a VW options list very soon) and a set of new 'sports comfort seats'. It sits on lowered and tweaked suspension and also features a new, throaty sports exhaust system, though the rest of it amounts to a fancy paintjob, if we're honest.
