He may have left Formula One behind, but Michael Schumacher's obsession with speed continues as he is now helping to develop a new range of motorcycle crash helmets.
German firm Schuberth is working with Schumacher to come up with a number of safety and technical advances for a new range of lightweight helmets. Both Schuberth and Schumacher are remaining tight-lipped about exact specifications, but say the new helmet will be one of the safest in the world when it goes on sale, probably later in 2008.
Schumacher said: "Throughout my time in Formula One, I really appreciated attention to detail and I don't intend leaving anything to chance with the design of this helmet."
Schumacher's involvement with motorcycle helmet safety came about after his retirement from Formula One. Since then, he has taken part in a number of motorcycle races, winning his second ever event. He says he intends to carry on bike racing, with several events planned for this year.
