Approval of speed cameras among British drivers is at its highest in 10 years. Seventy-eight percent of UK drivers now regard speed cameras as part of daily life, which is a 9% increase on the figure from 2007.
However, 36% of drivers still believe that not all cameras are sited only for safety reasons and 61% reckon that cameras are primarily used to raise revenue.
The study was carried out by the Institute of Advanced Motorists and its Head of Road Safety, Kevin Delaney, says: "There is a downward trend in the number of drivers being caught by speed cameras. Hopefully, this is because more drivers believe safety cameras save lives, but it could be that motorists are now more aware of where cameras are positioned. Either way, the trend is good for road safety."
