| New Model Preview | 2008 Geneva Motor Show | Volkswagen Scirocco |
Those looking for a small sporting car with four seats, but don't fancy a hot hatch, will have a new choice from September. The Volkswagen Scirocco revives an old name in a completely new car and prices will start at around £20,000.
The Scirocco has four decent seats and a useful boot inside its low-slung body, while underneath will be a choice of 120- and 160bhp turbocharged engines. There's also the option of the 197bhp 2.0-litre turbo from the Golf GTI, and VW is set to offer a DSG sequential manual gearbox too.
Diesel fans will be catered for with VW's new common rail 2.0-litre turbodiesel, which has 138bhp.
Volkswagen promises sporty handling for the Scirocco, which is launched 34 years after the original made its first appearance at the
Geneva show. The suspension will be available with different settings, in a similar way to the Audi TT, and this will be called Adaptive Chassis Control. It will offer Comfort, Normal and Sport modes to the driver at the touch of a button.
