| UK Pricing Announcement | Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG |
Given the significant power and torque increase and extra equipment fitted as standard to the new
Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG over its predecessor, it was a surprise to hear the pricing for the UK market. The C 63 AMG saloon will retail at £51,317, while the load-lugging estate version comes in at £52,567.
Both variants share the same naturally aspirated 6.2-litre V8. Given the swept volume of this unit, plus its high-revving nature, it's no wonder Mercedes claims such figures as 451bhp and 443lb.ft of torque. Potential buyers preferring a manual gearbox will be disappointed as ever that the only option is the seven-speed AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic - as accomplished as this unit is.
Performance will disappoint nobody though, as the C 63 AMG saloon cracks 62mph in 4.5 seconds. The standard car is limited to 155mph, but buyers can have the top speed increased by choosing the AMG driver's package, which, for £2,160 includes attendance at an AMG 'Power and Passion' event. The Performance Package will also interest keen drivers, as it consists of upgraded front disc brakes, a limited slip differential, 'performance' suspension and an even nicer leather and Alcantara steering wheel. That's not so cheap though at £3,120.
At £51,317, the new C 63 AMG saloon will be more than £2,000 more expensive than the forthcoming
BMW M3 saloon, though it offers a very different driving experience. Its closest rival could be the new Lexus IS-F.
