| New Range Addition | Renault Grand Modus |
The
current Modus is a diminutive thing, but is more than just a re-clothed
Clio; it's innovative and flexible - a really good car for a small family. We've just received details of the new Grand Modus and anticipate more of the same, but with funkier looks and an extended wheelbase giving added flexibility.
Renault is also to revamp the existing Modus, which retains the shorter wheelbase chassis but gains the fresher, distinctive styling of the Grand. Renault will now offer a 'Grand' version of each of its MPV type vehicles: the New Modus,
Scenic and
Espace.
Renault's Grand Modus' wheelbase is extended by 93mm over the standard car and as a result will offer a good deal more room; boot space is up to between 305 to 410 litres compared with 217 to 293 litres in the Modus. As with the normal car, the rear seat can be slid forwards or backwards to exploit extra room for passengers or a larger boot space.
You'll know you're looking at a Grand Modus when you notice the larger rear quarter-lights and lengthened wheelbase. It won't be so easy to spot the standard New Modus, however, with only subtly different front- and rear-end design.
Practicality is the name of the game with the Grand Modus; not only does the rear seat slide and fold, but it's blessed with a plethora of inventive storage spaces, including under-floor lockers, drawers, the 'Stay Put' system built into the front passenger seat and an aviation-style compartment, too.
Both new models go on sale in February 2008.
