| Model Replacement | Frankfurt Motor Show | Renault Kangoo |
Renault displayed its new Kangoo at the
Frankfurt Show, hoping to build on the high success of its first model, which sold over 2.2 million units worldwide. The versatile Renault offered a new cheap and cheerful take on the van-convert MPV with more attractive styling and better quality interior.
At 180mm longer than its predecessor, the new Kangoo will feature a more sloped MPV-style windscreen to better accommodate occupants, as well as to improve visibility. The rear bench seat will be able to split 60:40 and fold completely flat to provide up to 2,866-litres of luggage space - slightly more than Citroen's Berlingo, but less than Fiat's cavernous Doblo MPV (3,000-litres). In a conventional seating layout the MPV will still offer 660-litres of boot space accessed via its massive rear tailgate, along with 77-litres of interior storage space.
The interior itself will be finished in better quality materials and trimmings than the outgoing model, whilst Renault has fitted a new roof rack that can hold up to 80kg in an effort to expand the Kangoo's versatility.
The car will be offered with both petrol and diesel engines. Headlining the range will be a 1.5dCi 106bhp diesel derivative, complete with particulate filter that helps to lower CO
2 emissions to less than 140g/km. The 1.5dCi will also come in lesser 70bhp and 86bhp forms.
Renault will fit ABS as standard, as well as Emergency Brake Assist. Other more powerful models will feature ESP and traction control. There is no word yet on UK pricing, but expect a modest increase across the range.
