Lexus has released a teaser photograph of a new high-performance derivative of the IS saloon that will be revealed at the
2007 Detroit Auto Show in January, alongside "an exciting concept vehicle", which we are assuming will preview the long-awaited V10-engined Lexus supercar.
We know that the new IS-F will feature a tuned V8 engine and that naturally leads us to wonder if this Lexus will actually be a rival for BMW's forthcoming V8-engined M3. Key to that will be the range of transmission options.
What is clear is that the IS-F will receive extrovert styling. The official image shows enlarged wheelarches, a boot spoiler and a new rear bumper incorporating a distinctive new layout for the twin-exit exhausts. It is likely that there are another two exhaust pipes on the other side of the car.
The 'F' is to become the sporty Lexus brand, which we'll learn more about in Detroit. We'll be there to see it happen first hand.
