What's all this about?
The Oxfordshire-based classic EV specialist Everrati has just unveiled its latest creation, a fully-electric wide-body version of Porsche’s 911 964 cabriolet from the early nineties. The company already produces other electrified versions of the originally-air-cooled 964 including a coupé, targa and cabriolet in narrow- and wide-bodied form, but hasn’t built a wide-bodied turbo-style 964 cabriolet until now.
Hold on, the 964 Turbo wasn’t sold in cabrio form...
That’s correct, which means that Everrati’s new creation is based on the relatively rare 964 Carrera 2 Cabrio turbo-look, which was a mechanically standard two-wheel drive 911 convertible with the wider flared wheel arches of the Turbo.
So what's powering it?
Everrati’s 964 Cabrio powered by a 62kWh battery pack sending a choice of either 446 or 507hp to the rear wheels enabling it to dash from 0-60mph in under four seconds which makes it more powerful and considerably quicker than an old 964 Carrera 2. That battery gives it a range of around 200 miles.
Any more engineering work?
The company hasn’t gone into a great deal of detail about it, but the occasionally alarming handling of the old 911 caused by the engine being slung out far to the rear ought to have been at least partly tamed by the “optimisation of weight distribution”. The chassis response has been improved too, the company says, and there’s a fully adjustable suspension system to suit the driver’s mood. Everything about the Everrati 911 is reversible, incidentally, so it’ll be possible to return all conversions to their original spec if desired in the future.
What's it like inside?
Everrati hasn’t particularly gone into that, but, if its other electric wide-body 964 is anything to go by, there’ll be heated seats, an uprated heating and air-conditioning system, navigation, a DAB radio, Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay smartphone connectivity.
Anything else of note?
While Everrati will build the 964 wide-body cabriolet in the UK, the firm has a partnership with another small car-maker in the United States, Aria, which is based in California. This will allow the Everrati 964 to be built on both sides of the Atlantic. The 964 wide-body cabriolet joins Everrati’s line-up which includes more 964-based conversions as well electric versions of the “Pagoda” Mercedes SL from the sixties, Series II Land Rover and an officially-licenced GT40.
So go on, how much?
The company hasn’t said, but because most of Everrati’s builds are bespoke projects prices can’t be gauged with too much certainty. Based on the pricing for its wide-bodied 911 coupé though, expect something starting somewhere around the £250,000 mark. Well you didn’t think it’d be second-hand Boxster money, did you?
