Another new Ferrari?
Indeed. We're usually lucky to see two new Ferrari models in a year, but two in one day is rather unusual. And while they're both open-topped derivatives of existing cars, this new Ferrari 812 GTS is rather different to the F8 Spider unveiled earlier in the day. Obviously, the GTS is based on the sublime 812 Superfast, while the GTS part of the name harks back to the 1969 Ferrari 365 GTS4 (also called the Daytona Spider). Somewhat surprisingly, that was the most recent series production Ferrari Spider with a front mounted V12 engine.
Remind us about that V12...
Under the GTS's long bonnet is Ferrari's naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12, putting 800hp and 718Nm of torque to the back wheels via a dual-clutch, seven-speed transmission. It screams to an 8,900rpm rev limit, too. Ferrari says a 0-62mph time of less than three seconds is possible, while the 812 GTS maxes out somewhere north of 211mph.
What's new to the GTS?
Well, the roof, obviously. It's Ferrari's Retractable Hard Top system and it raises or lowers in 14 seconds at speeds of up to nearly 30mph. Though the GTS looks very similar to the 812 Superfast, if you compare the two side-by-side you'll discover that the new car's rear end has been completely redesigned. And we think it looks sensational.
