Aston's racing history honoured at GFoS

Aston Martin is being celebrated at the Goodwood Festival of Speed (GFoS) this year and we've already talked about what the company is taking to the Sussex show in terms of its road-car output. Well, we can now confirm that the company will be the focus of the 30-metre-high Central Feature at GFoS - this being a sculpture by Gerry Judah that shows the 1959 Le Mans-winning DBR1 racing on a never-ending track into the sky - and, underneath this towering edifice, there will be six Vantages all finished in some of the marque's most fabled racing liveries. These are a green and silver machine to honour the 1923 'Record Breaker' Razor Blade, a red version with Aston Martin lettering on the side gills called the Italian Progettista, a yellow and green machine that is the David Brown Era Vantage honouring the DB3S, a red, white and blue car that's a direct nod to the 1989 'Group C Monster' AMR1, a Lime Essence and Stirling Green-finished vehicle that is basically the livery of the current FIA World Endurance Championship-challenger Vantage GTE and, last but by no means least, our favourite: there's a Gulf blue-and-orange one, paying homage to the DBR9 that took back-to-back GT class victories at Le Mans in 2007 and 2008. The best news? Aston will release 60 Vantage Heritage Racing Editions to customers. If the Gulf livery doesn't sell out first, we'll eat our hats...
