McLaren's forthcoming hyper-GT, the Speedtail, is an incredibly impressive machine in many respects, but even its badging is going to set gold standards - mainly because it uses that very material in its make-up. Owners can choose an almost limitless array of badging options for the Speedtail, which has two company logos up front and a name badge at the rear, with McLaren itself choosing to exhibit the 18-carat white gold and thin-ply technology carbon-fibre weave selection. This sees the front badge, on its own, weigh 100 grams, but if you're worried about having too much weight over the nose, then super-thin, lightweight transfers can be chosen instead. McLaren says the materials used for its demonstration badge represent just one of the ways that the Speedtail 'combines art with extreme performance', and the company that is making the badges is Vaughtons, in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter. This hallowed company has been around since 1819, during which time it has fashioned Olympic gold medals and the FA Cup, among more items.
