I'm getting déjà vu...

Don't despair: this is indeed a new article. You've no doubt read all about the facelifted Mercedes-Benz C-Class Saloon and Estate that made their debuts at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month, alongside the upgraded Mercedes-AMG C 43 variants. Well, same story here, but this time we're talking about the C-Class Coupe and Cabriolet body styles.

Right! What's new?

It's quite a subtle makeover, in general. On the outside, there are new bumpers, new wheel designs, new colour options and, on the C 43, a new AMG radiator grille. All versions of the updated C-Class Coupe and Cabriolet get LED High Performance headlights as standard now, while high-tech MultiBeam LED lights with Ultra Range Highbeam are an option.

Inside, there are snazzy new open-pore material trims to choose from, but the big news is the option of an all-digital display setup. Admittedly, this is not completely standard, but a new 10.25-inch screen for the centre of the dashboard is, and buyers can pay to replace the analogue main instruments with a customisable digital screen. It's all operated with the Comand touch-sensitive controller, or by using the new thumb pads on the steering wheel. Behind that you'll find the new 'turbine-style' engine start/stop button that is now standard across the two body styles as well.

Modest enough, what about the engines?

The sole diesel offering for now is the C 220 d model. That's now powered by the Mercedes 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine, making 194hp and 400Nm of torque, which allows the C 220 d Coupe to do 0-62mph in seven seconds dead (the Cabriolet is a full half second slower). Also new is a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine, a four-cylinder unit that gets a 48-volt 'EQ Boost'. The engine itself produces 184hp and 280Nm of torque, while the electric motor can add up to 14hp and 160Nm of torque, while allowing more energy recuperation and coasting at higher speeds. Powered by this engine, the C-Class is called the C 200, and it's available with 4Matic four-wheel drive.

You've not mentioned the AMG C 43...

For the update, the Mercedes-AMG C 43 Coupe and Cabriolet get a mildly updated biturbo V6 petrol engine. It now produces 390hp and 520Nm of torque (up 23hp and while peak torque is unchanged, it's available from higher up the rev range for slightly more of the time) and it's paired with a faster-shifting nine-speed automatic transmission. Traction is taken care of by 4Matic four-wheel drive as before with 69 per cent of engine output to the rear wheels by default.
