What's all this about?
Oh, just another one of those madhouse German tuning houses, deciding to take an already-pretty-frightening and already-pretty-damned-quick performance car, and make it even more, er, frighteninger and even more damned-quicker. Or something.
You what?
It's Edo Competition, a company known for its association with both Porsche and Mercedes-AMG. In this instance, it's the latter car firm we're focusing on and its monster GT R sports car - not something you could call a slouch, what with its 198mph top speed and 3.6-second 0-62mph time, courtesy of a whopping 585hp/700Nm 4.0-litre, biturbo V8 petrol. But Edo, based in Ahlen, in Germany's North Rhine-Westphalia, clearly has a death wish, as it has added another 75hp and 80Nm to a car that has a reputation for being a bit spiky as it is.
Seriously?! We're talking a 660hp and 780Nm GT R?
Neat maths - and yeah, that's precisely what we're talking. While Edo doesn't make any claims about the 0-62mph time (there might be traction issues here that mean it is no faster, if maybe even slower, than the regular GT R), it is happy to say it'll now run on to a speed in excess of 211mph. 'In excess of', mind...
Yikes! How has it achieved these numbers?
Via increased boost pressure for the pair of 'hot-inside-V' turbochargers and a comprehensive remap of the engine management system that runs all of this power. Further, Edo has dropped the car by 25mm at the front and 20mm at the rear - giving an improved, lower centre-of-gravity... as well as plenty of 'stance' - and says its exhaust system means the Edo Competition GT R has a 'super-throaty, race-car sound'. If you'll forgive the repetition, we like the sound of that.
Where can I go to find out more about Edo and the 660hp GT R?
