What's this then?

This is our favourite car of the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show, without any question. It's the Honda Sports EV Concept, a follow up to the equally gorgeous (and equally retro) Urban EV concept which we saw at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Looks good.

The Sports EV is, well, it's just fabulous. It's about the size of a Mazda MX-5, and it sports seventies-esque styling that will see it rise right to the top of everyone's wish lists. It's a compact electric coupe that... well, actually that's about all we know for now.

Why isn't there any more info?

Honda is being staggeringly tight-lipped about the car and what its actual specifications might be, so for now all we have from Honda is that it has "EV performance and AI (artificial intelligence) inside a compact body with the aim to realise the joy of driving the user can feel with a sense of unity with the car".

Honda has been making some vague sounds about the possibility of a 2020 on-sale date, and the Sports EV does (we assume) share a lot of its components with the Urban EV (which is definitely going on sale in 2019) so there's hope. Keep your fingers crossed.

What else was on Honda's stand?

Elsewhere, there were a bunch of weirdo electric personal transport concepts that look like wheelchairs designed by Hello Kitty, and a robotic hot-dog stand (well, that's what it looked like) called RoboCast. Never let it be said that Tokyo doesn't still do oddball concepts.

Not oddball at all is the Super Cub 110, a special edition of the classic Honda moped that has been made to celebrate - wait for it - 100-million sales of the little bike. 100-million... That should pay for the development costs of the Sports EV, shouldn't it?
