What's all this about?
An F-22 Raptor fighter jet on racing slicks. Not really. It does a passable impression though, doesn't it? This is the latest in a long line of Lamborghini one-make racers, the Huracan Super Trofeo EVO.
EVO means evolution, surely?
Sure does, although it's a revision that's concentrated mostly on aerodynamic efficiency. Check out the LMP1-style dorsal fin, the roof scoop, the new front apron design, all intended to ease the passage of air over and under the Huracan's hunkered-down body.
Is it faster than the old car?
You bet, to the tune of 1.5 seconds around the hallowed Monza circuit. That's a gain that most racing teams would kill for. Lamborghini Squadra Corse, the firm's in-house competition outfit, claims an eight per cent improvement in aerodynamic efficiency for the EVO over the outgoing model that first saw track in 2014.
Any other changes?
Lambo says that torque is up by three per cent throughout the engine's operating range, although doesn't tell us how. Crafty. The naturally-aspirated 5.2-litre V10 will still howl like nothing you've heard on earth, good news for fans of internal combustion symphony and hearing aid makers alike.
How much will it cost?
A saucy €235,000 (£207,695), although that's before it even turns a wheel. Factor in a lot more than that for a full season of racing and the odd smash. There's some consolation to be had in that the new aero bits can be fitted to an existing, non-EVO Huracan Super Trofeo.
When will it debut?
It's set to compete in three Super Trofeo series in Europe, Asia and North America from spring 2018 onwards, visiting tracks like the Nurburgring (not the scary old Nordschliefe, though), Imola and Suzuka along the way.
